Samy Briss (born 1930 in Iasi, Romania) is a painter, printmaker and sculptor. He studied art in Bucharest, worked in Camil Ressu’s studio, and was active in printmaking and set design.
In 1960, following Communist repression, he immigrated to Israel, where he met Marcel Janco and was introduced to Dadaism. He later began exhibiting internationally and eventually settled in Paris.
His works are known for their simple, static figures with a poetic, dream-like quality, set against dark or gilded backgrounds, reflecting influences of his cultural roots and religious iconography.
